What are we teaching them?

It seems we are living in a society where anything goes.  Ways of life that used to not be, must now be accepted or we run the risk of being labeled judgmental, discriminating, critical and so on.  We are the minority, the “feather rufflers” if we speak out against something that could teeter on the line of being a sensitive issue or too political. Instead we as Christians are told more times than not to keep our religion or our God out of the discussion.  Somehow we get bullied into thinking we can’t speak out against injustice or speak the truth of God’s word when we see immoral acts and teaching all around us.  We have learned to keep silent to avoid causing a stir or evade confrontation.

On heavy issues, such as abortion I hear a lot of  “Oh I am pro-life, but I don’t actually want to DO anything to end abortion OR “I would never choose abortion, it doesn’t affect me so it’s someone else’s issue.” It’s true, maybe you haven’t been personally affected by abortion (chances are you have and you just don’t know it).  Maybe you have not been called to minister to pregnant teens or to those who have had abortions and need healing. Maybe you don’t see yourself standing outside of an abortion clinic and interceding for those walking in, day in and day out.  And that’s ok…but as followers of Jesus Christ, every single one of us DO have a responsibility to our future generations to teach them that killing innocent lives in the name of “women’s rights” is WRONG!

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  Romans 12:2

I could take this blog entry in a million different directions at this point….but the one on my heart tonight is what is silence teaching our children? Whether you are involved in a ministry I mentioned above or not, what are you teaching YOUR children and the children around you.  Are you teaching them about the sanctity of all human life, do you show them in your actions?  Do they know what God’s word says about His very creation:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” Jeremiah 1:5

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”  Psalm 139:13-16

Are you speaking life in your own home?  Do you defend the unborn when the conversation comes up?  Do you stand on God’s word when someone challenges your beliefs on when life begins? Or do you turn your head and close your eyes when you see posts such as this one come across Facebook? Does fear keep you silent?

Some say silence is acceptance or means you condone a behavior and I tend to agree.  Our culture in general supports the killing of innocent lives for convenience and selfish pride.  We get away with it because after all, its legal!  But legal simply means, allowed by law…..it certainly doesn’t make it right in the eyes of the Lord! Some in the younger generation are growing up believing it’s ok….its not a baby, just a blob of tissue.  At least, that’s what they are told…..so it has to be true, right?  There is nothing wrong with abortion, its a choice that is made available…I mean its legal, so it has to be ok!

Then there are others – others that know in their heart that no matter the legal rights of a mother to abort her child, that it is wrong…that it is murder!  Others that are young, yet have heart break and question how something this evil could even exist.  Others like the young 15 yr old teen girl below.  I received this message through a friend of mine today. She shared these thoughts from a youth at her church that obviously had a heavy heart and was looking for someone to listen.  She first posted this on her Facebook page, but was told she should take it down because this was “too sensitive a matter”….she then shared it with my friend.

“I have a broken and crying heart about girls (teenagers like me) are having abortions and killing innocent babies… My heart cries out for people that are choosing to make these decisions… Like how could people create such a thing that kills innocent babies that have done nothing wrong and hurt nobody… It’s sick and wrong why do people do these things??? I saw a post earlier that this women was pregnant with twin girls and previously had girls and a person took a photo of her and it went viral and everyone was posting about how they would adopt them and she said no and went ahead and had the abortion and she said if she couldn’t have the abortion she would flush them down the  toilet it hurts me so badly about how people do these things…”

She asks why do people do these things and how could there even be such a thing as abortion.  Really, her question is valid and very real.  HOW could there even be such a thing as killing a child before it has a chance to live?  How could such a thing exist when God is the creator of all things and it is His plans and purpose we are created for?  We truly have no right, NONE whatsoever to decide someone else’s life is not valuable enough for whatever reason we choose at the time to be given life!

How dare we as a society teach our children this is an acceptable means of birth control or that if you find yourself in an unplanned pregnancy at whatever age, you have no responsibility to that child. God does not make mistakes and even if a pregnancy is unplanned…..the life growing inside is not unplanned to Him.  The means of how the life was conceived (the choices made or the acts that occurred) may not have been in His plan because of our free will….but the LIFE growing inside has been knit together like a beautiful tapestry since before time began.

It is our responsibility to teach our younger generation according to God’s word.  For if we don’t teach them who will?  Our current society is cultivating a culture of death….both physically and spiritually. We can’t rely on school, the world or even the church (although a Bible believing church/youth group can help). Ultimately, it is our responsibility as parents and Christians to teach our children and the next generation.

Psalm 78:1-8 says:

“Give ear, O my people, to my law;
Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings of old,
Which we have heard and known,
And our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord,
And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

For He established a testimony in Jacob,
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which He commanded our fathers,
That they should make them known to their children;
That the generation to come might know them,
The children who would be born,
That they may arise and declare them to their children,
That they may set their hope in God,
And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments;
And may not be like their fathers,
A stubborn and rebellious generation,
A generation that did not set its heart aright,
And whose spirit was not faithful to God.”

God says we AND our children are accountable for the things He has revealed to us –

“The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.” Deuteronomy 29:29

And as we know, God has revealed that murder (abortion) is wrong in His commandments-“You shall not murder.” Exodus 20:13

So, even if you feel abortion does not directly affect you…..reality is it does!  It affects our children and future generations. My son, Isaiah should have been someone’s husband, father, uncle and the purpose for his life will never be fully known.  This goes for the other 55+ million babies aborted since 1973.  Each with a purpose that will never be fulfilled. Whether you think it is your issue or not, we are responsible for teaching our children the value of every life and obeying God’s voice.  Let your voice, line up with the voice of the Lord….Silence speaks volumes!

“And in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice” Genesis 22:18

In Truth and Love,
Misty
